Where did you grow up and what did you enjoy so much about it that it made you come back after uni?
I was raised in Wodonga and spent most of my childhood growing up on a farm near the Hume Weir. Growing up with such great access to the outdoors and family camping trips in the surrounding areas had a profound impact on me and I couldn’t imagine living somewhere without that. I also studied locally at CSU in Thurgoona and enjoy the proximity to my family and community I grew up in.

The classic – what got you into Physiotherapy?
I attended Wodonga Little Athletics as a child and as I got older I also joined the Wodonga Athletics seniors club, it was there that I started sprint training with a family friend who was the sprints coach at the time. They were also a massage therapist (or so my child brain remembers) and I found it fascinating learning about how the body works and functions together, particularly in the context of sport. I always liked the idea of a career where I am moving my body and not stuck at a desk.
Have you had any serious injuries?
Honestly no! Maybe I just wasn’t a daredevil kid or just didn’t play enough contact sports. I have watched my brothers do enough injuries themselves that I get the gist and don’t want to follow suit! Any current injuries I have are just a bit boring and repetitive stress type injuries.
What rehab did you do and what are you doing now to prevent them from happening again?
I’m one of the best people at not taking my own advice for my rehab but the main thing I am focusing on is strengthening, and as I am still competing in Athletics with my local club this is also important for injury prevention.
What have you enjoyed about your time thus far at Sports & Spinal Albury Wodonga?
The team! Having worked in a few different jobs and areas including hospitality, retail, cleaning, and health I can honestly say that the quality of the people you work with and the work culture can make or break the job for you. In the short time I have been working here everyone has been so welcoming and always ready to listen and help me when I have tricky cases and are so keen to share their knowledge and expertise. As a new grad this is crucial as you so often feel like a duck with their feet going a mile a minute under the surface.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
As cliche as it is, some of my favourite time is spent with my husband and family outdoors around here. I especially enjoy exploring new hikes and places to swim, although relaxing on the couch with my dog and a cuppa at the end of the day is a definite recharge essential.
What is your favourite sport and sporting team?
If you couldn’t tell, athletics! I really enjoy the variety and accessibility within the sport and my absolute dream would be to watch it at the Olympics in person. No real favourite team I guess but Zoe Hobbs is a Kiwi sprinter who is the fastest woman in Oceania and races alongside the incredible Jamaican and American sprinters, same name so maybe there’s hope for me yet…
Is there anything else we should know about you?
I have won those “guess the number of lollies in the jar” at least three times despite being terrible at maths… Go figure, I guess with my heart…
